DatapluS Enhanced Publication EditorThe DatapluS Enhanced Publication Editor (EPE) is a DDI 3 based web portal to enhance scientific publications by adding detailed information about the analysis process. It is a wizard-style web application designed for easy use by researchers, allowing them to add metadata (such as datasets used, variables used, waves, studied countries and syntax) to a scientific publication. Researchers were asked to enrich publications based on the large scale survey data of the European Value Study (EVS) and the Dutch Parliamentary Election Studies (NKO). The list of publications and metadata of these datasets were preloaded into the DatapluS EPE database. After enrichment by the researcher, a DDI based export is created which can be harvested by subject repositories or portals for dissemination. The EPE also includes an administration module to manage user accounts and publications.
This application was built as part of the DatapluS project, a joint project between several institutions. The European Values Study (EVS) is coordinated by the Tilburg University Department of Sociology, and its data is provided by GESIS. The Dutch Parliamentary Election Studies (NKO) is coordinated by the University of Twente, and its data is provided by DANS. DDI exports of the enriched publications are used for a subject repository hosted by Library and IT Services at Tilburg University.
The DatapluS Enhanced Publication Editor is written in Java with the Google Web Toolkit and uses Hibernate as object-relational mapping library. It runs on a Tomcat server using MySQL as database.
